    A bientôt

  2. We stayed for two nights 15 & 16th of June 2016 in L'Etable. The gite was newly decorated, nicely furnished , spacious and clean with everything you could have wished for including a secluded sunny garden at the rear. Everything was clearly explained before we arrived and our stay totally exceeded our expectations. We wished we could have stayed longer as there is just so much to see and do. We will definitely go back and hopefully stay for longer next time.
The owners Jason and Peta were extremely helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.
    Thank You!
    Pete and Sue

  4. We returned from a wonderful week's stay at the end of August. We had a lovely time and were made to feel very welcome by Peta, Jason and Harvey the dog. The spot is very peaceful and tranquil. We stayed with our three children and relatives stayed in one of the smaller gites. The children had the run of the field and could play safely. The gites were very clean and comfortable and our daughter particularly enjoyed the small lizards that lived beneath the rocks. We used the gites as a base to travel to the Normandy beaches and explore some family history, It was ideal for this.

  5. We have just returned from our week stay at ‘La Porcherie’ and what a fantastic week we had!! We couldn’t have asked for better weather and better hosts.
Our little gite was lovely and clean and comfortable and had everything we needed, it was in perfect surroundings with picturesque views with a newly added decking area for us to sit and relax in the evening sun.
It was ideally situated for us to explore all the World War 2 sites, museums and historical sites that this region offers.
We will definitely be recommending Jason & Peta’s lovely gites to everyone.
Many thanks to Jason & Peta and family including Harvey for making our stay one of the best we have had in France.

  7. We stayed at la porcherie two weeks ago and had a great time the weather was wonderful our hosts Peta and Jason couldn't have been more accommodating.

The gite was perfect for us to use as a base to bike ride around the many wonderful cycle routes which France is famous for.

Jason and Peta told us of a new cycle route newly opened from Caen to Thury-Harcourt although the tunnel shut was at the end of the route as it needed further work. We cycled this route and it was superb as it followed a disused railway line as we rode along the 25km route with the railway to one side and the river l'Orne on the other it was idylic, and it just goes to show that the local knowledge that Jason and Peta have was an integral part of making our stay so memorable, and as hosts thats what they impart to their guests.

We would like to thank them enorously for making our holiday so stressfree and enjoyable, keep up the good work,

    Many thanks,

    Stewart And Alison Wray

  8. We have just returned from a wet/windy and somewhat chilly 2 weeks in Normandy. Despite the awful weather we had a very enjoyable visit staying in La Porcherie, one of the gites at Peta and Jasons La Vieille Ferme. The bedroom was lovely having been recently refurbished, with amazing views of the surrounding countryside. The bed was very comfortable. The cottage is well equipped and if the weather had been different we would have enjoyed the outside patio and garden. Peta and Jason are the most delightful hosts and together with their children and Harvey made our 2 weeks relaxing and stress free.

  9. Our trip to Normandy was for personal reasons to do with the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings. We didn't want to stay too near to the beaches, the crowds expected would have been way too much hassle for us. Instead we looked at staying about an hour away, in a rural part of Lower Normandy. We looked at a number of places and this one stood out. I can't tell you why, it just did! Booking was simple by email and unusually for French gîtes, even those owned by those from the UK, this one used payment into a UK bank account. Makes the whole booking and payment so much easier. A few emails and it was all sorted.

On arrival, we were greeted by Peta, Jason was out but made himself known a little later. Have to say at the outset, these two made us feel very welcome and settled before we knew it. La Porcherie is a lovely cottage right next to their house and is self contained, well laid out and very comfortable. The bedroom upstairs is beautiful and has a roof window as well as fully opening windows looking out over open countryside. We had some great clear nights when we just stood at these windows and watched the countryside bathed in a milky moonlight glow.

Downstairs is a large living area. The kitchen area is part of this but is divided from the main space by a low dividing wall. You can cook and still be part of the conversation. Also in this open plan space is a dining table that seats four and a small armed chair with a sofa that can convert into a bed. Heating throughout is by electric radiators and a "Stove" in the main living area that blows hot air. We did need the heating a couple of days, but the weather was very kind to us.
There is a patio with a table and four chairs, on a summers afternoon, it is bright but not too hot. It is also a lovely social spot when Peta and Jason are about. Afternoon tea on the patio with some local delicacies, or locally produced "Cidre" and a few nibbles goes down a treat. Talking of Cidre, On arrival we had a bottle left for us in the fridge. Delicious and better still, this can be purchased directly from your hosts. Eggs too, they have chickens and fresh eggs for breakfast? Super!

Sadly, our time at La Porcherie went all too quickly. It was time to pack up and leave this idyllic piece of heaven and head home. What will we miss most? I'd like to say it was the quiet surroundings or the beautiful gîte or even the gorgeous weather. Well, it was all of those things but we really can't leave out the most important reason our stay was so good... Jason and Peta! Friendly and funny, offering a great service in a great place. If Carlsberg did French Rural holidays...

  10. ★★★★★
What a Fantastic Place to stay, along with fantastic friendly hosts too, nothing was any trouble and we felt like we had known you for years.
It was so peaceful and unwinding there and the buildings have been well converted too, you guys have done a great job looking though the before and after photos...
We stayed here for the 70th Normandie D Day celebrations and found it was a great base for exploring the Normandie beaches, Various museums and sites, and the beyond areas too.
You do really need more time than a week though to see it all, There are so many pretty and interesting places and activities to do and see for all types of people
Rest assured we will be booking to see you again, So a big thank you Peta and Jason for a super break.
See you again Andy & Joy
(P/s Jason, The Mg is available when you want it, but it's now got 1600 miles extra on the colck tho! lol)

  11. We are recently back from a couple of weeks in La Porcherie - a clean and comfortable, well-equipped gite in a lovely scenic and peaceful spot.

The chirruping cicadas and the swallows swooping low over the garden and fields made this a wonderfully relaxed situation. We were even treated to the sight of a hummingbird moth taking nectar on our very first pass through the garden!

Jason and Peta were relaxed and friendly hosts and we had the added bonus of finding in Harvey a playmate for our labradoodle. The pair had a wonderful holiday and that naturally added to our enjoyment ("if the kids are happy then we are happy" sort of thing!) The weather was patchy (late May) but we had allowed for all weathers and that's what we got, though it didn't prevent us from doing what we planned and enjoying ourselves.

La Porcherie provided a perfect base for our walking holiday, and Peta and Jason were able to provide a pack of walking maps which proved invaluable. We went on a good few walks and enjoyed them enormously. We were really pleased we had chose the Suisse Normande area as much of Normandy is flat but here we had the advantages of hills and were treated to the associated views. Also, for dog walkers we found it great that you can walk from the gite and up and around the local area in an enjoyable circular walk without needing to go further afield if you don't want to.

Perfectly doable from here, too, were our trips to Caen, Bayeaux and Arramanches, and we loved Honfleur which we visited en route back to Calais. (The local area is well equipped for day to day shopping.)

This holiday for us was an experiment in travelling with our dog on a pet passport and we have to say it proved very easy and straightforward. The local vet was totally knowledgeable about what was required, so even though we aren't fluent French speakers and he had little English, there was no problem. This meant that there was no need to find a vet on the Pet Passport approved list that is shown for guidance on the internet.

Before we left we had a tour round the other gites that Peta and Jason have renovated and they were lovely properties that they have worked hard to make thoroughly comfortable so we can heartily recommend them if there's more than two of you staying.

Lasting memories will be of the huge areas of wildflowers, the peace, the swallows and cicadas and vast tracts of wheat spreading across a tapestry of green fields and cows, and of our hosts, not forgetting Harvey!

  13. We had a lovely week staying in La Fermette in February 2014. The gite had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday and after a day visiting the local area it was lovely to relax in front of the log burner with a roaring fire on the go. The gite is lovely and peaceful but only 5-10 min drive from the town where you can get everthing you need. Jason and Peta are great hosts and couldn't have been more helpful. We hope to return in the future.

  14. G'day, we had a beaut week in the cottage in December 2013. The weather was a mixture, but mostly sunshine, not too cold, but the cottage was lovely and warm, and clean with all the things to make it a home away from home, which was great, as we had to travel a long way and a long time to get to France. I would recommend this cottage, or any of them on the farm, Jason and Peta are lovely hosts, we had a few laughs and they were very helpful with the location of places to see, and or shop. Our favourite day out was to Honfleur, but the whole of swisse Normandie is very beautiful. The cottage is centrally located, and with the short December days, it was good to know that you were not far from "home" at the end of the day. Our GPS took us to the front door, lucky for us as I could not count the screamin' U'ies we did on the way to it, having disobeyed the GPS at odd times. Regardes

  15. We had a long let at L'Etable from August to December this year. The cottage was in immaculate condition with everything we needed, including a cot and highchair. Deep in beautiful countryside but with plenty of things to do close by. Peta and Jason were really friendly and helpful and we loved our time there. Highly recommend!

  16. We spent a week out of season at L'Ecurie and found it comfortable and well appointed. Beautiful countryside and wonderfully relaxing in rural peace and quiet.

  17. We were lucky enough to be the first to stay in L'Etable after its conversion. It's beautifully appointed with everything a family needs. And if you need a little help with anything, then Peta and Jason are two minutes away and nothing is too much trouble for them.

A car is certainly needed but the benefits of the location are huge. There is so much to see and do within one hour's drive. We covered Pegasus Bridge, Sword Beach, Lisieux, Bayeux, Caen plus the local activities, particularly those in Clecy (climbing, kayaking and so on), which is the heart of Swiss Normandie.

    Highly recommended and great value.

  18. We had a fabulous week at La Fermette In August 2013. The Gite itself was fabulous for our family of five, with lots of space to either chill out, feed the chickens or play frisbee on the large field attached to the property. Peta and Jason were very helpful hosts, with the bounciest dog I have seen in a very long time. Even though the property feels remote, the local village Thiery-Harcourtt has two well stocked supermarkets within 10 minutes ride.
The location is perfect for exploring the Normandy region, with Mons St Michel, Bayeux and the Normandy Beaches within an reasonable Drive.
We would not hesitate in recommending La Vieille Ferme for families and will hopefuly return in the future.

  19. What a wonderful place. You couldn’t wish for a more perfect family holiday. Within an hours drive there is something for everyone. Normandy is simply beautiful, loads of great and affordable food. Never once felt ripped off….Within a few mins of La Vieille Ferme is a wonderful little French town. We especially enjoyed our day spent on the river in reasonably priced Kayaks. We stayed in large Jite 6 birth. – Its huge. Very light, clean and comfortable. Absolutely charming. All run by a really lovely British family, who take great care to make sure everything is perfect. (THEY ALSO RETURN DEPOSITS – THANK YOU!) We would have no hesitation in booking again….Thanks for a brilliant holiday where we didn’t once feel ripped off!!!

  20. We just came back from two weeks staying at La Porcherie. We had a fantastic time. The cottage was gorgeous and was perfect for me and my husband, our four year old and our one year old. There was loads of information about places to visit in the area - and all of those places we visited were great - particularly the castle at Falaise and the Roman museum at Vieux. Peta and Jason were really lovely and helpful. We sat outside in the evening and watched the sun set from the terrace and our daughter loved the swing in the garden. Thanks so much for a wonderful holiday! We'll be back!

  21. We spent a week at La Fermette in August and found the site to be perfect for us, a lovely well presented clean large Gite with all that you coud wish for. Jason and Peta were on hand for advice on Shops Petrol and places to visit. nothing seemed more than around 1 hour away which is great for kids. kids playing field was very handy and in sight of the gite so we didnt have to worry about them.
All in all a very very good holiday was had by all.
All this and fantastic Value to boot!

    Thanks again

  23. Just back a from a truly wonderful week at La Fermette. The gite was very spacious and provided plenty of room for our 4 (big) children aged 21, 18, 14 and 12yrs. The internet access was an added bonus. The field became our cricket and rounders area bringing us toether as a whole family.

The weather was great apart from the tornado (!) on arrival and one damp day which we spent in Falaise. The castle is a must do with i-pads and projected vignettes. Really really interactive and kept whole family engaged for reasonable cost. Sunny days spent eating breakfast outside and BBQs of an evening watching the sun set over the hills.

There are so many great things to do and see nearby. Brilliant hikes thanks to Peta's guides she kindly leant us. Well worth the climb up to Pain De Sucre for the view and to watch the paragliders launch. A competitive pedal along the Velorail and a 2.5hr trip down the river Orne in kayaks.

Thank you to Peta and Jason for being such welcoming and helpful hosts and sorry we never got to thrash you at quick cricket ;-)

  24. We have had another relaxing holiday with Peta and Jason, who look after their guests exceptionally well. This is our second visit the 'la ville ferme' and we are coming back next year, with lots of friends for the D Day 70th anniversary. The cottages are well sited for visiting all of the museums and beaches, there is plenty to see and do in this area, which is why we keep coming back.

  26. Just back from a relaxing week at La Porcherie. Peta and Jason were excellent hosts and made us feel more than welcome. The gite was exactly as described and we also had a tour of the others on changeover day they are all finished to very high standard. We are already planning next years visit and bringing the family too, close enough to local eateries and the Normandy beaches within 35min drive. Who needs Majorca and fights over loungers!!!

  28. We had a week in La Porcherie in June 2013. Peta and Jason were welcoming and helpful hosts, recommending various local places of interest throughout the week. The gite itself was finished to a very high standard, very clean and comfortable, and ideally situated for a variety of attractions.Thank you for a lovely, peaceful holiday!

  29. We had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay at La Fermette. Despite the cool spring evenings and mornings, the log fire and room heaters kept us warm and cosy. The attached fields were great for the children playing badminton, ball games and generally relaxing in. Location is lovely and there's much to do in the surrounding area.

  30. We had a really restful holiday in August 2012, staying in La Porcherie. We loved the tranquillity of the place and the convenience to main places of interest. If you love medieval history, then this is the area for you. Jason and Peta were superb hosts, really welcoming and able to offer lots of useful local advice. The accommodation was simply superb and catered well for all needs. A very clean and comfortable gite.We would thoroughly recommend this to you and we hope to go back again very soon. 32. We recently visited Normandy in early October 2012 and rented a cottage for 2 at ' The Old Farm' the cottage is ideally situated for the D,Day landing beaches being about 20 minutes south of Caen. There is a small town about 5 minutes away with all the facilities you may require as the cottage is in a tiny hamlet.
The owners are very friendly and being English makes any queries easily answered.

We have no problem recommending the cottage to others.

  33. We had a few days in La Fermette towards the end of September 2012. We loved the property and enjoyed exploring the interesting area, assisted by the four kittens! The cottage is spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Within easy reach of Caen, Bayeux, the D Day beaches, Falaise and the Suisse Normande. Thanks to Peta and Jason for your hospitality.

  35. Had a wonderful 2 weeks at l'ecurie at the beginning of august 2012.
The accomadation was first class and finished to a real professional standard, both aesthetically and for comfort.
The Gite is situated in a lovely location within the stunning views of the Normandy countryside.
The kids loved playing in the vast open space of the adjoining field, and we enjoyed the peace and quiet of an evening where we could enjoy a couple of bottles of wine!
There is plenty to see and do within the surrounding areas as Normandy is steeped with history, and has some wonderful countryside and beaches.
The gite is situated within a 10 minute drive of 2 supermarkets, so although you feel the peace and quiet you are never too far away from stocking up on food and drink.
Peta and Jason were very friendly and hospitable and are genuinely very nice people who made us feel very welcome and were always on hand if we neeed anything.
We are hoping to return in the near future, its a wonderful place to just chill out and relax with the option of having a more active holiday should you wish- truly the best of both worlds!

  36. We stayed at L'Ecurie in August 2012 for a week and had a wonderful time. The area is just beautiful with plenty of countryside nearby to explore. Two supermarkets were a short drive away along with local shops selling beautiful fresh produce so we enjoyed some wonderful rustic meals. We loved the friendly animals - chickens, ducks, geese and especially the four lovely kittens, who were such a bundle of fun around the garden. And Peta and Jason were also very friendly, I'm pleased to say! Always on hand with advice on where to go and what to do during our week. Our two sons, aged 14 and 10, also loved the area and we didn't have to travel far to enjoy high ropes, kayaking, the local swimming pool (which was excellent) and something that was new to us - velorail, which was great fun. We hope to come back again very soon. We have been back home for nearly a week now and are still missing the place! 10 out of 10.

  37. My partner our 13 year old son and myself stayed in L'Ecurie for 7 nights and had an amazing time.
The location is a great base for exploring Normandy and the accomodation was fabulous.
The owners who live a short distance away are so friendly and nice and made us all feel so welcome.
I would recommend this property and suggest if you read this that you don't look and further.
We will be going back next year for sure and this is the only place in many visits to France that we have agreed that we will go back to.
Both of you should be so proud of the hard work you have put into making this property such a lovely base.
The local village is a short walk away and the surrounding area's have much to offer.
Supermarkets and other shops are a short drive away.
There was also a large open field next to our property where we could play football and other games.

  38. This is the third time we have stayed at La Porcherie in 4 years. Peta and Jason are excellent hosts and I'm always amazed at the efforts they go to to make sure their guests are having a great holiday. They suggest lots of great things to do in the area, usually because they have done them first hand with their family. I'm really impressed with their new properties and the sheer hard work that has gone into the conversions to date. Can't wait to see how they finish the latest building due to be converted over winter 2012/spring 2013.

  39. Stayed in the newly renovated La Fermette and had a fantastic week, the house is spacious and well equipped but more importantly was a great base to explore this region of Normandy. There is plenty to do without having to drive for hours and the range od days out in the area should suit most families. Jason and Peta were friendly and helpful, generally we like to try different holidays, this is one of the few instances where we will seriously consider a return visit. Children missing the ducks and geese, Martin missing the cider!!
    Thank you.

  42. We had a lovely stay at La Porcherie and can thorougly recommend this quiet spot of French countryside. Thury Harcourt is a short drive away with swimming pool and skate park and nearby Sugar Loaf Mountain provides stunning views. It is a perfect base for canoeing walking and cycling or just chilling out with a glass of wine with hosts Peta and Jason.

  43. We stayed in this lovely little gite from the 10th to 17th Sep and enjoyed every minute of it.
Pita's sat nav directions were great and took us right to the door. Lots of small towns and villages within easy driving distance, perfect for showing off your limited knowledge of the French language. Our hosts were there when we needed them but allowed us the space to do our own thing when we didn't. Nice people, nice property, nice holiday.

  44. We had a week in August 2011 The Gite was as beautifull as it looked in the advert and was lovely on the inside too, with everything you need for a peacefull holiday retreat. The local ameanaties were only four miles away with several bakeries, two supermarkets and many other little shops. We were lucky to have plenty of sunshine (rain and showers too!) so we sat outside taking in the views and reading our books, the only noise was from the cows and local wildlife, the odd car driving up/down the lane.

Jason and Peta were perfect hosts, they are very busy people with two lovely children, but they were never too busy for us, with all their knowledge of the local and surrounding areas, an appropriate answer for every question asked.

We would like to thank them for a lovely time and have no problem recommending their gite to others, but, don't forget, if you go to the Normandy countryside, you will be in the countryside, with some of the most beautifull views in France.

  45. Stayed for 1 week in July 2011, a lovely base to explore the many delights that Normandy has to offer. Comfortable accommodation in a lovely setting, ideal for a relaxing break or you can get out and about and have a very active break. We had two children with us and they absolutely loved their holiday.

  46. We stayed at La Porcherie for 2 weeks in June 11 and found it to be a very comfortable and welcoming place, the cottage has everything you need and is in a very quiet area . The area in and around Thury Harcourt is beautiful with lots of out door activites to be found from canoeing to abseiling. The coast is around 40 minutes drive and the landing beaches less than an hour, the area is full of history and interesting for all age groups, the area has too much to offer to see in one holiday. The hospitality shown by Peta and Jason was wonderful, nothing was too much trouble and they have a in-depth knowledge of the area. We will be visiting again in the future to enjoy more of Normandy.
